Atlanta: Tenants Denied Water in Landlord-City Dispute
In a dramatic battle between tenants, the City of Atlanta, and a landlord, 130 tenants had their water cut-off as the city attempted to collect on overdue water bills. The city contends that the landlord is responsible for nearly more than $400,000 past bills. With tenants caught in the middle, a judge intervened to restore the water; when the city again cut off water to the tenants, a second judge threatened to jail the Atlanta Watershed Management Commissioner. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quotes a tenant as saying that, "I didn’t know how important water is... Without water, you cannot do anything.”
